A Study of Canada for Kids

Here are some good resources we used in studying Canada.

For the last two weeks with Classical Conversations we've been studying Canada. Oh, Canada!

When you love all things Prince Edward Island as much as I do, you get really excited about teaching your kids about Canada!

I actually grew up addicted to all of the Anne of Green Gables books. They were my fave...and still are! After I made my way through the entire series, I started on the Road to Avonlea book series and movies (oh, I just adore them!). So naturally, I've gotten my little girls hooked on these as well. You guys, these are amazing books to read with your kids and the movies are just as wholesome. I never have to worry about what my kids are hearing or seeing when I have this series playing. And in this day and age, that is a blessing.

In my oldest daughter's community group this week, we discussed some geographical features of Canada and made Canadian flags. They had fun marching around the room with their flags!

Here are some good resources we used in studying Canada.

I also found this great little resource for studying Canada with kids. They have links to crafts, puzzles, poems, etc.

We also found this little gem, which I will probably watch over and over, whether we are studying Canada or not. This is a beautiful artistic video done by a couple who spent a week on Prince Edward Island, Canada. This is the reason I love PEI so much. Watch it and you'll see what I mean.... (oh, and don't miss the part where they watch them make chocolate covered potato chips. Yum!)

About 10 years ago my family went on vacation to Prince Edward Island. It. Was. Magical. By far, the best family vacation we ever took, in my opinion! (Thanks, Mom & Terry!) And I can't wait to take my family one day. Studying Canada with them just made the desire even stronger. If I find my pictures from our trip, I'll make a second post and share them with you all. (My house is still out of order since our move.)

The best part of the study was when my daughter informed me that her missionaries she's been studying at church this month are from Canada, and she believes she'd like to be a missionary there too. She talks about missions a lot and I do believe God will use her in this capacity one day. Maybe not on PEI, but how awesome would that be!?

I've only scratched the surface of studying Canada with kids in this post. If you have your own experience either traveling to or studying Canada, would you please leave a comment below? I'd love to hear your experience! Thanks for stopping by!

Blessings,

  1. That trip was definitely one of my faves as well...sickness and all! :-) Once Bin gets his American passport then we definitely need to start planning another trip! :-)

    1. I agree. I want the kids to get a little older and I doubt we'll drive again unless we have 3 weeks to spare. Haha
