Natural Face Wash Recipe

So I'm a huge fan of "natural" beauty products and I'm a super huge fan of Organic Coconut Oil . I really haven't found anything that I don't like about it. I would go so far as to say it is a miracle product, but more on that in another post sometime.
I have always had acne. I tried so hard to cover it up when I was a teenager. I used this gooey green colored (yes, I said green!) concealer that I not only slathered on my blemishes, but I thought why not just coat my whole face. The result, a face full of plaster that I realized actually GLOWED green after seeing pictures of myself! Aghh how embarrassing! So like any teenage girl I imagined when I blossomed into a mature woman of 25 or 30, I would be done with the dreaded acne. Was I the only one who thought that? Well, don't buy into it. It's rare if it goes away at 20, or 25 or even 30. I hope I haven't just killed someone's dream.

BUT there's hope! After trying face wash after face wash and spending way too much money on concealers and foundation, I discovered the winning (and natural!) combination of Organic Coconut Oil and baking soda. I started this regimen about 2 years ago and while sadly I still have some slight scarring and discoloration from my teen acne, I have acne NO MORE! I'm almost at the end of my third pregnancy and I can say I haven't had one breakout. Do you know how amazing that is with all of the fluctuating hormones during pregnancy?!

Well this is not technically a "recipe" because I never measure the quantities of baking soda and coconut oil. I suppose if I had to guess, it would be 2 tsp baking soda to 3-4 Tbsp coconut oil. I use the little glass container seen in the picture above and stir them together. Coconut oil melts quickly so just holding the container in your hand or mixing while you're in the shower might make it soft enough to stir or shake the soda to combine. I keep it in the shower and use it once a day as my only face wash. You only need a tiny bit because the oil will cover your face easily. Some may be concerned about it making your face oily, but I've never had that problem. Maybe one of the readers can comment below if they've noticed this or not?

Would love to hear from you after you've tried it!

  1. Me too! With the acne, I mean. Goat milk soap is what worked for me. I think our skin needs oil, and when we strip it of the natural oils, it overcompensates, which causes all of the acne problems. I love coconut oil too, I'll have to try this wash.

    1. Thanks, Jenn! I've never tried goat milk soap but I would like to!

  2. I love coconut oil - but this looks great! I need to try this! (I am going to tell my daughter about this too!

  3. Oh my gosh. I know just who to share this with! Thank you!

I cook a lot with coconut oil but haven't used it as natural beauty remedy (though I know I can)
